Default moving to hawaii

another one of those posts about moving to hawaii. moving in early august. company is paying for the move (car and the belongins). i think i will ship the car with pasha hawaii. as far as furniture and the rest, sounds like a no brainer since it is free but also do not want to bring all of my junk. i am even considering moving new furniture and car. car is 1999 toyota corolla and furniture is not really that nice.

anyone can recommend a good moving company. would really appreciate any thoughts, suggestions.

thanks.

Where are you moving from? (If from the west coast you will have more options than from farther east.)

Will you be staying permanently, or for a set period of time? On which island?

If you were to get rid of your stuff and buy new, do you have the time and means to sell it for a reasonable amount? That can be more difficult and time consuming than you might think. Ditto the car - it's not easy to get blue book value on a private sale (at least not where I live), and you will not get very much from a dealer. On the other hand, if you were thinking of trading in soon anyway, it's simpler to sell and buy.

(FYI, I'm packing for our move right now, we're moving from NY to Kauai, moving three households with a 40' container for our house and business, and a 20' for my mother's house and my sister's; one car; and two cats. We are using Matson to ship the stuff, Horizon to ship the car from CA (driving it out there), and local movers to load the containers and wrap the furniture. We're packing the boxes ourselves, we are paying our own costs. Our container will be packed on 7/15-16, and we leave for our x-country trip on 7/18.)

As a property mgr..I see people struggle to bring their STUFF and regret it.Our homes are way smaller than what you are probably used to. Example:Can you imagine a 3 br house with LESS than 1000 sq.ft? We got em! Have lived here 30 yrs..and would recommend...leave the stuff and start fresh..unless you can't live without it. You can pick up a cheap car 2 blocks from airport...and not have to wait for yours to be shipped in...You'll love it here...don't make your first days full of concern about STUFF...ok?

I'd say that since your company is paying for the move, bring everything you can then once you get moved, toss out what you don't need. Where are you moving to? what company?
