Default Moving to Oahu

Greetings,

My wife and I are moving to Oahu in Jan 2009. I will be working on Camp Smith and my wife will be working at the VA Hospital not to far from there (I think).

It is just the two of us but we are interested in a 2+ bedroom anywhere between 1800-2500 dollars a month. We want to be within 20-30 mins from work. No preference for either apt, condo, house, etc.

Any suggestions on where to live? We are really excited to moving out there!!!

Justin

Default Housing?

From what I have been told, there is EXCELLENT housing down on that side, the fact being you have Hickam, PH, and even Kaneohe on the North end of the Island, where I was stationed for 4 years with MALS-24.

I would push for that if you can. Or even look into buying. Hawaii can make a killing in the resale value, if it's down, rent it out for couple of years than resell. People have made A LOT doing that while I was there. Good luck, and I am so jealous!

It was a lot easier to live out there with the Navy paying my bills though. I could have stayed longer, I could have stayed forever! It's beautiful. Go check out the Makapuu Lighthouse the first weekend there. It's got a nice paved trail to the top, and a beautiful 600 ft view of the Windward Side of the Island. Also check out Mariner's Ridge...Man I miss that place!

Make sure you get off the rock once a year, so you don't get island fever. We all do. But remember, you are living in a place that some people never get to see but in pictures!

I am trapped in Margaritaville with no boat! But I do love my truck... Buffet was crazy! But Key West has changed quite a bit.

Having lived here for 30yrs...I can tell you that the best places to allow you reasonable morning(7:30-8:30am) travel time to those jobs is anywhere EAST of those job spots...get a map. Look at Salt Lake,Kalihi(upper),and anywhere in Honolulu town. You don't want to be WEST unless you like rush hour traffic.

Only problem is you can't get ANYWHERE on Oahu in 20-30 minutes at rush hour.

One evening, coming home from downtown for the 2 mile ride to my home in Waikiki I spent 1 hour 45 minutes in the car - because there was an accident 15 miles away on H-1.

That was an exceptinal event, but it ordinarily took 30+ minutes to make the 2 mile drive.

20-30 minutes from work.....BAHAHAHAHAHA
