Just a small addition: I think Aqua's Renew Hotel allows pets. And I think most travelers with dogs would be kamaaina.

Default dogs and oahu

One post mentioned that dogs ARE allowed on waikiki beaches and another one said that they are not. What about Kailua? I am desperately trying to find a way to move to Oahu, but finding a rental to accept two 100lb Ridgebacks has not gone well at all. Do I just need to get there and stay in a pet friendly hotel so that landlords can meet us in person?

Are there pet organizations, not humane society, that are online? If you know of someone who would be open to renting a room to me and my dogs, with a backyard, please let me know.

Moana and Sheraton don't allow dogs? I will ask my friend who works there, but Westin is supposed to have a big "love your dog" program....

Kailua beach - yeah, dogs are allowed. Mine goes there all the time, and there are always others around. The best info on the where & rules for dogs on beaches is the Hawaiian Humane Society: Hawaiian Humane Society - Programs & Services - Dog Beaches

As for rental: Work with an agent. It made all the difference for me. There are places with no limits on number and no limits on size, but they're hard to find. We have a 50lb dog and two cats, and we found a great place. But we didn't have a lot of luck with Craigslist. You can also pay for a one-month subscription to PetsOK. PETS OK* - Pet Friendly Rental Home and Apartment Finders We found a lot of potential places there, but ended up renting something our agent found.
