Default "Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii"

http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/ap...AKING/80724055 : A judge expressed dismay about a New Zealand trend of giving children bizarre names, as he made a 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so her name could be changed from Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii.....

I read that!! She was so embarrassed she told her friends to call her "K"!

That's horrible!

My "hippie" daughter named her girls, Dawn Sunshine and Destiny Sky, and I thought that was a little far out, at first, anyway. Sunshine and Sky are much better than "Violence"!?!? or Talula does the Hula!

I guess the new offspring from the Ozarks could have someone named "Henrietta does the Hoe down" !!! Or "Barney plays the Banjo" !!

i think its a real shame when the government can tell you what you can and can't name your kid. Doesn't anyone else get tired of 6 Katies in one classroom?

And when you think of it, Violence is actually a very pretty name. it has a nice flow to it.

I thought that was pretty bad too. Also parents should name their child a name and not a phrase, or close to improper sentence. I have to say though, Destiny Sky is a beautiful name. Iam all for unique names, but not statments as names.....

"Talula Does the Hula from Hawai'i" would've probably sounded better if it had been translated into Maori or Hawaiian (eg. "Waikahe-hula-mai-na-moku-o-Keawe). Quite a few Hawaiian names are actually phrases commemorating places, events, ancestors, etc. so there's nothing inherently wrong with it. For instance, a noted Hawaiian scholar Mary Kawena Puku'i was originally named "The rosy glow in the sky made by Hi'iaka, reared in the bosom of Pele, the earth-consuming woman." Translated into Hawaiian, that would be "Kawena-'ula-o-kalani-a-Hi'iaka-i-ka-poli-o-Pele-ka-wahine-'ai-honua" or simply "Kawena" for short. It's somewhat more interesting than simply choosing a popular name like "Emily" or "Madison."
