Default Classic car move from Canada to Hilo

Was wondering if anyone knows if there are special laws for older cars in Hilo. Have a 100% stock original 67 Pontiac that I want to bring with me from Canada. Is there any special paperwork, emission tests etc. Also what about fees or taxes on these cars? And finally how much should I expect to pay for the shipping itself?

Any help would be appreciated.

Why would they charge anything different for an old car than a new car? You pay a road tax according to the weight of the car and if your car wasn't built with seat belts you don't have to have them, but a '67 Pontiac has those anyway. No special paperwork, no emissions tests, no special fees or taxes. A lot of folks have old cars as their daily drivers so how could they tax them differently?

Haven't a clue about shipping prices.

Try Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines - Home to ship the car. Your vehicle will only need to pass safety check, pretty basic; good brakes, lights, wipers, etc. Like hotzcatz says, plenty old cars here, some classic, some downright scarey.

Hey hotzcatz thats great news. Actually where I am from Vancouver things are much different for old and new cars. We have emissions tests here called "Aircare" and older cars have it rough. It is actually kind of 2 way street though... if your car is in all original condition you can be granted "Collectors Plates" which excempts you from "Air Care" & insurance is only about $250 a year which is a steal here.
Thx leilaniguy I am going to check that link right now.
Big weight off my shoulders didn't want to leave my car behind.

If you love it, get a closed garage and keep it as clean as you can. My little Euro-convertible was eaten in about a year and a half (rust but mostly electrical system) and I parked it in a carport. Newer cars do much, much better. I wished I'd had a garage.

You might also invest in rust proofing.

Per capita, Hawaii has a pretty big classic car community. I've had quite a few myself (Camaros, Novas, Impala, Belair, VW's, classic pickups etc) over the years. At the moment I am looking for another car. Shipping is the same as with any other car. $1055 from the West Coast to Hilo. Pasha is the best choice if you can get your car to them. I just had a new Tundra shipped with Matson to Hilo from California with no probs. If you ship using Young Bros, then the problems and horror stories mount up quick, lots of careless accidents, damage and theft. That is why my truck was shipped to Hilo with Matson even though I live in Kona. Anything to Kawaihae goes interisland through Young Brothers.

Matson will bring mainland cars to Hilo? I thought all the inter-island shipping was through Young Brothers? Guess I haven't been trying to ship cars from the mainland, though.

Matson will go to Hilo in an enclosed container. If you go to Kawaihae, YB will use an open barge from Oahu. Not good......
