I asked this question on someone else's thread - the one listing the 10 things she hates about Hawaii, I think, one of which was crime - but it generated no response so I'll ask it here. Strictly sociological Q, no agenda: when examining police reports, which race or races are likely to show up the most as having perpetrated the crime? Same with gangs - which race or races are most likely to be involved in gang activities. Same with drugs - which race or races are most likely to be drug users as it pertains to committing crimes i.e. needing fast cash to pay for drugs?

Both Hank and I answered this question earlier today on the other thread, actually. Briefly, though, the crime aspect of your question is included in the Attorney General's annual "Crime in Hawaii" reports available here: Crime In Hawaii - Uniform Crime Reports — Attorney General
Because gang "involvement" and/or drug "use" are not necessarily criminal, that is not covered, per se, in the report. Other than rank speculation, I do not know where you might find answers to this aspect of your query. I don't see what purpose generalizing and/or stereotyping any group based on casual perceptions would serve. |

Well, as I said, I have no ax to grind w/ regard to any specific race. Many have commented here that crime is high in Hawaii and it IS a melting pot and there IS a disproportionate ratio of rich to poor so conditions just lent to the question. Strange how when someone puts race and crime in the same sentence people look suspiciously at you and think you're trying to profile a particular ethnicity. I would not have raised any eyebrows if I'd asked how many Chinese won gold medals at the Olympics.

On further reflection I can see how this would be a touchy topic so I withdraw the question.

Well, I'd suspect most of the drug crimes are committed by drug users. Like, duh? :P And folks who do gang stuff probably don't have any Aunties to box their ears.

Drug addicts.

From what I've seen on Kauai, drug use is no different there than it is in my home state of WV. People who are involved in drugs come in every age, color and income bracket. People may discriminate based on these criteria but addiction does not.

Interesting that even if ALL drugs where legal, drug addicts would still commit the same amount of crimes.

repeat offenders commit the most crimes, not just the ones they get convictions but all the crime that went unreported or unpunished.
