Default Puna, Hawaii

Fastest growing part of Hawaii, the Puna district, long the state of Hawaii's poor ******* stepchild, is rapidly coming into it's own. Once only the land of erupting volcanoes, earthquakes and marijuana gardens, tropical and wet Puna, on the east side of Big Island of Hawaii has become a mecca for Baby boomers and dreamers from all over the earth. Here you will find hippies, rednecks, rastafari, buddhists, shaman, square pegs of all sorts, along with black sand beaches, lava flows, jungles, and some of the nicest people on the planet. Thousands of retirees are moving here, rather suddenly, from all over the mainland U.S. If you are interested in discussing living in Puna, or maybe Kau, or the Big Island in general, just post, maybe I can answer some of your queries. Aloha, Leilaniguy, from deepest, darkest Puna!

Question Advice on Big Island move?

I'm doing research on moving to Hawaii, and it looks like the Big Island might be my only financially viable option (my first choice may have been Kauai, I think). I've contacted a buyer's agent on the Big Island with some detailed information about me and what I'm looking for, but I was thinking maybe I could get some more insight from people in this forum who've been living there for a while.

I realize this is an old post. Should I start a new post instead of adding to this one?

Aloha insider, this is the original opening post from the other thread titled Puna with 160+ replies. It has the newest posts. Apparently there was a glitch in the system and the thread was cut in two somehow.

Default orchidland estates

alooooooohhha puna..
my wife and i are reeeaally thinking about buying a piece of property there in puna to hold onto for a while and eventually build a home on it and move over there..
weve been drawn toward the orchidland estates side of town
looks to be in an area that suits our tastes
and our budget too
weve heard some stories of flooding, ice, and illegal dumping
also looked at the community association site and seems like there are some people that are gonna keep working out the kinks and make it a better little by little as it developes...??
we will come take a look at the area in a 2 - 3 months and see for ourselves.

soooooooo, i would like to ask if anyone (lg??) has any orchidland info, stories, blessings, or warnings.

how far to a place where you can jump in da water to cool off??

ok peace and mahalo

...gregor and kazue from kali
