update: the tangerine and tangelo are flowering. the brown turkey fig was planted with one fig on it that the bugs got, but lots of new growth is coming up. we've had so many bananas that we've had to give some away and of course lots of banana bread was baked. still waiting on the pineapples.

also, the henleys are getting bigger by the day. they've now tripled in size. the coop is built and painted "tiffany blue" (leftover paint from the previous owner) and awaiting its new occupants. they're still a little too small to make the move just yet.

I'm drooling with the gardening lifestyle you all describe. I want to have a small patch of land to have a quiet life like yours. Which island are you from? Which area is best to do small gardening? I've been thinking of Big Island (been there couple of times but no land hunts) but have no idea where would be the ideal location for gardening, fishing while avoiding VOG. Which side of the island has soil for growing? Which subdivision is all lava rocks? Thanks for your input.

If your Henleys need friends, there's more starting to hatch out tonight. Cheep! Cheep! Buff orphingtons, this first dozen eggs. The next dozen is all hapa but all barnyard egg laying breeds.

You can garden on all of the islands, it is just different when you don't have much rain and only cinders but folks manage even in Kawaihae and around Southpoint or even downtown Honolulu on their lanai.

We are moving to Pahoa next May, our property is 8 walking minutes from the ocean and are looking forward to growing veg. and planting fruit trees. We will consume, and trade for other veg. herbs, and fruit. Can't wait.
