Will Hawaii ever have casinos?
It seems just plain silly that there is no gambling in Hawaii in any sense.

Not likely anytime soon, in my opinion. I think the reason is partly religous conviction, (Strong Mormon influence), and the fact that those who do gamble here expect to do it on vacation in 'Vegas and nowhere else. There is a very strong tie between Hawaii and Las Vegas, much outmigration of Hawaii people has been to Clarke County, NV.

I've Heard, But Don't Know If It's Just Rumor, That They Are Thinking Of Doing "boat Casinos" On The Ocean...

Why? They have beautiful beaches and sun.... by an by.... Las Vegas is considered as the NINTH island of Hawaii. There is a large population of Hawaiians in LV. The flights are cheap from HNL to LVS. I don't see the reasoning, neither does the rest of the state. It was on a ballot some time ago to allow casinos to come in. It was rejected quickly by the public and officials. Hawaii is surviving just fine without the gambling. Leave the casinos in the middle of the desert.
Aloha.....

Gambling revenue would be good for the state. It would be great too if Native Hawaiians could control them like Indians on the mainland.

The indians are so called seperate nations, unlike the Hawaiians, which are just ordinary citizens like the rest of us. The Hawaiians would have to become a nation for them to get their own casinos, and I can't see that happening in our lifetimes. There is enough gambling in every state already, thank goodness it is not in Hawaii

I was not aware of the strong mormon influence in the state of Hawaii. I knew they were in Laie - BYU-UH and Polynesian Cultural, but that was it.

I guess that bingo, cockfights, raffles, football pools, etc. don't really count as "gambling" per se.

Why fix what aint broken? Gambling is a dirty passtime, swimming on a beach is more rewarding. IMO gambling is for weak minded people.... this is coming from a stock trader.
