Smile Moving nearer Schofield Barracks

Hi, I currently live in England and my boyfriend lives in Honolulu close to Waikiki Beach. He works at Schofield Barracks and wants to move closer to work. I will be staying with him for the summer this year. Does anyone have any advice as to which area I should be looking in for an apartment to rent? I will not have a car and would like to be safe walking around during the day. I would like to be near the beach but is that unrealistic given the traffic conditions. Any help appreciated.

Thanks
