Con - cleaning filtration condition size maintaining frogs .... no fire hydrants - if fire? (although I found even most places with running water no hydrants - amazing)if a hydrant insurance cheaper- just the two of you shouldn't ever need to ration.
I have a friend that family was raised on catchment - 7 kids on only 7000 gl catchment - although they did take the kids to the beach school nights to shower! haha kids loved it went swimming then shower!
Pro - no one polluting your water with chemicals you don't know about - or even the horrible ones we do know about....cleaner water no water bill - Hilo side shouldn't ever run out of water

The College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) has worked with Hawaii County on a lot of guidelines for water catchments:
Hawai‘i State Department of Health
http://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/oc/freepubs/pdf/RM-12.pdf
Hawai'i Water Quality Program
Some folks will drink their catchment water, usually they will have a big filtration system, other folks fill up big water jugs at the spigots at the side of the road. The County has put in quite a few water filling spigots around the island so you can fill up five gallon water jugs for drinking water.

Catchment is the same as anyother water source, well, lake, river, reservoir, or rain catchment. It's the filtration and treatment that finally matters. It does not matter where the H2O comes from, just the quality out of the tap. You probably will drink water from a catchment tank that has multi stage filters, RO, and UV treatment over a county pipe from a reservoir or well next to or under the landfill with no treatment.

Hi Koa,
I'd suggest new threads with titles specific to the questions you are wondering about...At least for me, it helps when I can look for specific questions I may be able to help answer based on the topic title...
Will be interested to see how you are progressing with moving plans. Good luck!
