Nanawale Estates and internet. (Hilo: house, neighborhood, live)

I would like to hear from anyone that knows about which internet (besides dial up and satelite) is availble in Nanawale Estates.

The area we would need it would be by SeaView Rd. and Mauna Kea Rd. In that area.

Satellite is so expensive and dial up is to slow.

What other options are there - Please any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Does any one use coconut wireless or anything like that? Also who is the land line phone carrier for the area?

How is cell service in the area I am asking about? Its such a big developement you would think there would be more services availble for internet, cell coverage etc.

I believe that there are 2 wireless broadband carriers in the Puna District. I can't seem to find the second one - Coconut-Wireless being the most prevalent one...

Check with At&T and Verizon as to 3G wireless availability. Verizon may have started (or is about to) roll out their new, much faster LTE network which uses the 700mhz spectrum vacated by analog TV signals... That will be much better than 3G speeds!

There is a wireless service provider named "Coconut Wireless"?! For years and years that's been a slang term for neighborhood gossip.

Anyone on Hawaiian Telcom? I called them and they said they have it out there to the address I listed but they are all full. Meaning router has as many people on it as it can handle, but he also stated that within one year they will cover all of Nanawale Estates? They stated they already cover most of Nanwale Estates - has anyone heard of them? They sounded like they are the main internet company I would think someone should have heard of them that lives in Nanawale.

Does anyone have this internet provider or is coconut wireless the only one to go through? I have been calling them but no one ever contacts me back and when I call seems like I can only leave a message. The property I am wanting internet to is located at the very farthest corner of Nanwalee Estates its not really populated like the front part.

Hawaiian Telcom told me the same thing 5 years ago when I wanted to get DSL service from them. Considering that they filed Chapter 11 several months ago, I'd be surprised if they finished providing service to all on Nanawale Estates within a year. I eventually ended up going with Oceanic Time Warner for telephone, high speed internet, and cable television service instead.

I called Oceanic Time Warner they said they do not service that part of Nanwale Estates. Then I called again and another rep said they do not service any of Nanawale Estates. Which the first agent said they did just did not have service on SeaView Rd.

Satalite wants like $2500 for the equipment and installation plus like $80 per month on a 2 year contract. And the speeds are like 1.5 down and only 128K upload. I had satalite internet a few years back in the states and it was not that good to say the least and the price they charge is outrageous.

Well we have to have high speed internet at the house so we can work there is no alternative solution. It is a must!

I may call a wirelles company and offer to pay for a repeater to bring the signal out to me. It may be cheaper then what satelite would be in the long run.

Does anyone know who the landline telephone provider is in Nanwale?

$2500 for satellite? Contact Hughesnet or Dish Network, directly and inquire. Don't go through third party. There is only one Hawaii telephone company... and you already talked to them... Hawaiian Telcom: local - long distance - internet - wireless - yellow pages

That situation sounds familiar. Did you call the Oceanic Time Warner's Hilo Office (808/961-0443) or did you just call the statewide phone number (808/643-2100)?

Oceanic Time Warner gave me the "runaround" over the telephone; however, after I went to their Hilo office in person and "talked story" with the manager, they came out to my place the following week and ran an extra 1,000 ft of cable so that I and some of my neighbors could get their services.

If you visit the local Oceanic Time Warner office, don't mention how things are done "back in the States", "back on the mainland", or "back home" because that's probably the quickest way to getting the worst customer service.
