Default I remember HI very fondly...

When I was a little kid (3-6), my family lived on Kauai--my mom was a pre-school teacher and my dad a server/chef. I spent a lot of time in the water, and became addicted (to this day) to doing everything aquatic. It may sound silly, but lately I've been keeping reef aquariums to keep me sane while we're not somewhere more tropical. I have several fish from HI, too-yellow tang, flame wrasse, but no humahuma. Anyway...

My wife and I currently live in Orange County, Ca. She's an RN and I'm in school to be a HS physics/biology teacher. I've been wondering for some time now what it might be like to try to move back to the islands in a few years when I'm done with school. We talk regularly about moving somewhere like HI or even becoming ex-pats and going somewhere really wild, and I figured now might be the best time to figure some of these things out.

I suppose my main question would be if a nurse and a HS teacher would make enough money to live a happy life in a safe place and raise 1-2 children, or if we should look elsewhere. I would assume we'd have to live on Oahu, and that's fine--we're pretty used to traffic and would enjoy the things that living in a more urban area allows--good food and things to do. Mainly, I want to be back in the water as much as possible--snorkling, scuba diving and da kine.

Sorry if I've rambled on, I know that's not the Hawaiian way.

Kauai is calling ... "Come home my brother ... come home."

Wilcox Hospital has jobs and I'm sure KCC could use another teacher.

you just warmed my heart quite a bit. Yesterday I found some old pictures of me "sledding" down the hill behind our place on cardboard boxes.

Go to "Advanced" search, and look for posts by Sweetbeet, and Mar0 (That's a zero, not an Oh). There are many that will tell you first-hand reactions to life on Kauai. Start with:

Mahalo! That's already helped quite a bit. about a year ago, my wife and I started seriously considering moving(back) to HI. In fact, right now, she's reading "So You Want to Live in Hawai'i" and has started talking about it as "when" instead of "if." yaaay!
