Congratulations! How exciting for you!
It's a good idea to come over and scope things out. You may not actually be able to secure a rental that far ahead of your arrival date, but you'll get plenty of information. I'm over in Kona but if I can be of any help when you are on island, feel free to get hold of me. You can send me a DM thru the forum.
You might post a "house wanted" ad on craigslist. I know I look at those now and then, and if I see one that I think we could help I e-mail them. Worth a try. For instance, in August a property manager or owner might know that end of Dec. their tenant is not going to renew, and could be a chance for you.

Aloha,
I want to thank all of you for your kind words!
I do not plan to secure a rental that far in advance I just want to get an idea of whats out there. I have spent a lot of time on the BI but mostly in Kona so this trip will focus on Hilo but I will have to make at least 1 trip to Kona to say hi to my friends and go to Costco ( I so miss Costco the nearest one is in Canada ) I am also going to find a Vacation rental for the first month while my thing come over on the slow boat . We are really liking up the Hamakua coast a little bit to live but still closr enough to commute to hilo. Any ideas?
