Default Being an Irish Hawaiian on the Big Island

Being Irish is usually lots of fun. I think the combination of Irishness and Hawaiian would possibly be a recipe for a great hula shindig! When I was over on the Big Island 2 summers ago, I had the pleasure of hearing an Irish lad & lassie playing music at the Ice Cream shop in Hawi; he sang "The Wild Rover" as good as I'd ever heard it. I know the Big Island is not Honolulu, but are there a few of you that ever interact and enjoy the spirit (I don't just mean Guiness!)? I hope to network with anybody Irish (along with any Hawaiians I'm fortunate enough to meet) when I get over next. I fell in love with the Hawaiian culture so much that I want to live among them to experience all their wonderful traditions whenever I can. I hope they are comfortable with me embracing their culture. I once lived in Puerto Rico and I learned to speak pretty good Spanish, dance Salsa and appreciate everything Puerto Rican; I have the knack to fit in anywhere like my Dad & Mom did when they were alive. They were great musicians and dancers and fell in love with the traditions of all the many world cultures. They shared their culture with others of all groups who enjoyed it. I want to meet people who can become my friends one day in order to fully enjoy Hawaii and it's wonderful people, including the Irish "wanna-be" Hawaiians like me!

You're better half! How do you do it with 3 boys? I'm impressed. A lot of Irish families tend to have more kids than the average today, although it's nothing like the older Irish families that sometimes had upwards of 10 +; that's history!

I claim to be part Irish too...not sure how the % really works out, but with my fair skin and freckles...no one seems to question me!

I'm not familiar with any particular group or event that celebrates Irish heritage, but that doesn't mean it's not here. (And if there's not, I think you would be a great person to get something going, Paddywagons!)
