Default Honolulu for its high Asian mix! The right ingredients?

I know a lot of people move to Honolulu for a lot of reasons, most ocean-related & paradise perception reasons

I'm actually one of those REALLY interested in the mix of Asian cultures in particular - Japanese & Filipino & Chinese in particular.

I am wondering how worth it Honolulu would be as a place to live because of it. (Incidently, I'm married to one of those ethnicities, currently live in Japan, and been living in Asia for close to 10 years, and I'm a haole).

Anyways, I've visited Honolulu a few times, and LOVE it. Even rented an apartment on Nuuana Avenue for awhile to get a feel for things and used the bus to downtown and Ala Moana everyday Love being on a bus and seeing the large mix of ethnic identities - with strong Asian feel.

Have you who live in Oahu & the Islands seem people like me 'make a go' of Honolulu...and would a person like me end up in Southern California in the long run anyways...or back to Asia...or what generally happens to those kinds

I think I have the right ingredients...but the only downside is I do have that mainland thinking that being a home-owner is something I'd like to someday achieved - never owned a home before though. I think that would translate into condo owner in HNL. However, the maintenance fee is pretty insane, that renting for life seems like the only real practical option. So I might be one of those types that also get driven away by that, despite strong interest in everything else about living in HNL.

There is more to Hawaii than Honolulu and the ethnic mix is all throughout the state. Each island has a slightly different mix, one island will have more Japanese than Filipino, etc. but they will still have some of each. Home ownership is less expensive on the other islands although there are less jobs, too.
