Default BI/ Ka'u: has the vog gotten better the last couple months?

Aloha,

We are buying a house in the Wood Valley and have heard that the vent spewing all the vog has partially collapsed and the vog has all but disappeared in the last couple months in the Ka'u area. Is that true? The air quality reports seem to confirm that there have been few voggy days at the Pahala monitoring station. Any on the ground reports would be appreciated. Mahalo.

It was as voggy as ever when we were there two days ago. Last Thursday, we went over to Oceanview from Hilo, it was voggy along the coast with more over on the Kona side of Southpoint. Friday we went to Kailua town in the Kona district and it was covered over in vog. Couldn't see the water from the upper road above Kailua town.

Was at KOA yesterday and the vog was just awful.

The person I was picking up remarked on how "cloudy" it was in Kona. I explained that it was vog.

I was looking back at some pictures from our first visit to the Big Island a decade ago and it is absolutely startling how much clearer views along the Kona coast were then.

Yesterday, you could hardly see the towns on the upper road, and Hualalai was completely obscured.

Here in ocean view, I haven't smelled the vog for months, so yes, it has been better. I consider experiencing vog to be having my immediate air quality affected, not speculating on what some far away clouds are.
