Caffeine also works. I know folks who dump their coffee grounds around a perimeter of the yard, as well as their stale coffee.

I stay near the Waa Waa road. They are loud down there but don't bother me so much in the house. I just got used to them. However got to say when I was looking at a house to buy down the road from Leilaniguy I went to it one night to see how bad they were. OMG it was 100 times louder than I experienced on the island. Talking outside was near impossible.

Check out the link in the other post. You place the lures 3-5 feet up, either on stakes or tied to a tree trunk. They are free to come and go, but since they are nocturnal, you simply "collect" them during the day. The males sit on the unhatched eggs, for 14 days and are called brooding males. This lets you eliminate a male and unhatched eggs all at the same time. Since only the males make the noise, it's a double pleasure to get a brooding male.
The citric acid works, but you have to be careful around some plants! Hydrated lime (lime mixed with water) also works well and I prefer it because so much of the soil here is acidic and the various yard plants, citrus trees, etc. all need lime added to the soil any way.

Coffee grounds and stale coffee only help the coqui frogs to "chirp" during the day (as well as during the night). In order to harm coqui frogs with caffeine, the concentration has to be pretty high -- high enough to harm mammals (ie. humans) and other non-targeted species.

I tried citric acid, it worked, but I decided it was too dangerous after splashing some on myself and getting chemical burns. I left the bag on a concrete slab; it got damp and ate a hole in the concrete.

I'm pretty sure I've posted this here on C-D before, but this reminds me of my former co-worker's watercooler story. Short version:
Her husband had heard that caffeine would kill coquis. They live in Volcano, where there are (were?) neighborhood watches to keep the coquis away. He saw one and poured a triple-shot coffee drink on it. Didn't quite work, but everyone had a good time with it, once he realized even a triple-shot wasn't enough...

semantics, cat. i don't believe they are bothersome to others yes.
regarding coffee grinds/grounds: be careful about using them as they attract feral pigs. they can smell it for miles. we were wondering why we were having visits. our nephew who is a pig hunter told us to stop putting the grinds/grounds out in the garden (no banana peels either). as soon as we stopped, no pigs.

That's a great thought.
Feral pigs hyped up on caffeine! Like they need an excuse to eat more?

unbeknownst to us, we had created sty-thru, i mean drive-thru. we were also told that a coffee grounds barrier around our papaya trees would deter slugs and/or snails. it didn't work for them either.
