Coqui frogs
For all the times I have been to the islands I was never regaled with a full chorus like I was a few weeks ago; rented a house on Hilo side.
I actually ended up feeling serenaded to sleep by them, funny little buggers..!!!

They've really popped up pretty quickly in the past few years, if you havent been to the islands in over 5 years they were probably not as prevalent (or even there yet) the last time you were here.

They can be quite a nuisance. Imagine so many of them, so close to your house, that it becomes difficult to talk on the telephone, listen to television or carry on a conversation. The presence of them needs to be disclosed for real estate sales! It can be a deal-breaker.

Almost every agency in East Hawaii has a Hawaii Island disclosure form that addresses coquis, vog, mold, albizia trees, helicopter fly-overs, etc. If you haven't seen one, ask an agent to provide you a copy for review. It may raise other issues that you would want to research before deciding on a property to purchase, for example: the sex-offender registry website...

If you were sleeping, it wasn't a full coqui chorus. You can't sleep through that. Even with ear plugs it is pretty loud.

They rustle in the wind and then fall over onto either your house or car.

Albizia - is a genus of about 150 species of mostly fast-growing subtropical and tropical trees and shrubs.
Size - 25 to 30 feet in height, spread at least equal to or greater than height. Broad spreading with a rounded, mushroomed crown. Growth rate is fast, 3 feet or more per year is not unusual.
I think some say they may get taller in Hawaii.
