Airline approved kennels?
I am moving in the next six months from Connecticut to Hawaii with my small dog. Due to all the regulations involved with bringing in a dog and the long flight involved, I have arranged two flights. I'm going to take one flight from Connecticut to Arizona so that my pup can fly in cabin. Then I will take another flight from AZ to HI. I need to find a hard sided carrier that I can use both in cabin and in cargo. It must be the measurements of 19"L x 14"W x 8.25"H. I think I may have found one that works, but does anyone know if wire-topped kennels are allowed in cargo? This one would be perfect, but I don't wanna go ahead and order it if I'll be stranded with the pup in AZ.

my understanding is when the dog flies in the cabin it should be a soft sided crate or sherpa as the dog in the bag needs to be stowed under the seat in front of you. the airline approved crates I think are plastic all over and they must have metal screws holding the top and bottom together anything else may pop open. check with the carries you plan on flying with to get the scoop for that airline

I couldn't get your link to work. I flew my 3 dogs in Petmate kennels from Phoenix to Honolulu on Hawaiian. I'm not sure about wire-topped but mine was a Petmate. You have to have ventilation on all 4 sides, which includes the back. A lot of carriers only have vents on each side and of course the door on the front. It should say airline-approved on the ad or you could call your airline and ask.

There must be vents on all four sides. The top and bottom must be secured by fasteners (no integral snaps). The door must be wire with the hinges swivel extending into the frame, or some other form of secure fastener. The bottom must be attached to the kennel (No removable sliding tray through the frame). Bowls must be attached to the door and can be filled without opening the door. Basically, look at those plastic, two part carriers at the pet store, with the wire doors. You can look up "IATA APPROVED" pet kennels to see what they look like.
