Maui Apartments
For those living in Maui, I've been looking for a nice studio or apartment in Maui. What are some nicer apartment complexes and which ones should I stay away from. Please give an explanation as well. I would like to know details such as crime, close to shopping centers, and easy access to roads, etc. Thanks.

To get started, find a vacation rental through a site such as vrbo.com. Phone the owner directly and negotiate a much lower rate - the economy is in your favor. Expect to get hundreds of $ off the advertised monthly rate. This will give you plenty of time to scope out the areas you are looking at, personally. It is also extremely difficult to rent long-term if you are not already on the islands. Vacation rentals also have cheap deposits and let you pay ONE monthly payment that includes all utilities/expenses.

I agree with "hothulamaui." It's best to kind of focus on what part of the island you prefer for work or social or climate (or similar) reasons. There's a good bit more traffic than many people realize, and commutes can take up a lot of your day. There are also only a very few places that have shopping centers. Maui has mostly small towns. Kahului is the only place with big box stores, which means a drive from the other towns "to save money" or to get to more varied inventory.
If you let us know what kind of environment you like best, we can be more helpful with specifics.
Best of luck.

My girlfriend and I would prefer to live either in Central or West Maui. I have a marketing degree and my girlfriend is a cosmetologist. She is hoping to find a job at a spa in a major resort and I am just hoping to find a job with good benefits and that I enjoy going to. We are looking for a nice size studio apartment that accepts small pets. I hope this helps a little bit. I do appreciate the help.

Check out the Maui newspaper - there are virtually zero jobs right now, especially at the resorts. There are some medical jobs, but that is about it.

Sorry to say, but you really need to heed md's caveats.
If you move here right now expecting to pick up jobs in those fields you run the risk of burning through a lot of cash fast, and being in poverty in paradise -- which isn't paradisiacal at all.
