On the cusp for weight is what I ment. Good Job Magnum PI! Thanks. Yep he needs to loose 5 lbs still not working so far, for the cheaper price to fly my dog. The problem is he isn't overweight. He is four and in the last couple months finally got to normal weight. Border Collie with allot of energy.

I was confused on the price to send with paperwork today also. Wasn't sure if I paid $165 or had to pay the inter island fee. If going through Honolulu only the $165. I also didn't get a copy of the bloodwork. The paperwork looked like I had to send a copy of it with rabies certificates etc. Found out today they already have a copy of it. So there is that answer. Paperwork mailed off today.

Now working on getting him used to being moved in the crate for the loading. Mahalo to all and Good Luck!Back to painting!

Have you thought about shaving the dog? Gotta be like 5 lbs of hair there?

Ya I am going to but it is long and thin not the normal thick coat of a Border Collie, guessing maybe a pound or so..

Gezzz I was about to mail off the paperwork then saw as I was filling it out the rabies micro chip doesn't match the correct brand for blood titer micro chip that was done in AK. Due to the vet in WA put the wrong brand in. Now that he has two micro chips Called Hawaii asked if this is a problem - Yep.

Have to have the vet in WA write a letter stating they implanted the wrong chip. The vet in WA doesn't believe they did and are leaving me on hold if they will write the letter. The vet response is it doesn't say a certain brand.. Yes it does on the Kansas site for Hawaii entry. So they called Kansas State to ask not for Hawaii entry just for the blood test. They told them it doesn't matter the brand for a blood test. I keep trying to tell them it does for Hawaii entry. Never did like the vet. I asked then if they would just write a letter stating his also has the matching micro chip to blood test not stating they did wrong. Still on hold.... http://www.vet.k-state.edu/depts/dmp...bies/table.htm

Finally an answer from the vet today at 5pm... They will change the rabies micro chip to the new chip # if I bring him in and they scan the new number. I had to send an email for the link above for them to agree this took all day. Now I question does this really work due to the chip was implanted after rabies? Whatever I will go with it.. It really doesn't have to be this challenging!!! I think the issue is they have done this to some other people getting ready for Hawaii also as I was the first in clinic to do so a couple of months ago. Thank god for the vet in Alaska!

Maybe a bottle of wine is an idea haven't had any in a while!! No more toothache though! Whew!
OK go back to paint fumes to make it all make sense!!!

When I was getting ready to move to Maui in 2003 and a job that subsequently fell through, I was terrified that quarantine would not be able to read my dogs' microchips so I bought my own chip reader to take with me. I think I still have it somewhere.

OK something new to me today. Dropped a friend off at airport this am. Questioned how strict on the weight for crate and animal. Real strict now even had to weigh the carryon and had to take a sweatshirt out because only could be 25lbs. Never heard that one before.

Also flying out of Seattle - Need to have on Health certificate animal can withstand tempertures 20 degrees to 100 degree. Otherwise if it is under 45 degrees outside they will not fly animal. This is with Hawaiian air.

Which is why we're paying extra to fly Continental (which we would otherwise never do) because they fly animals in a temperature controlled environment. We'll let you know how it goes.

All airlines will require it if the outside temperature at the departure location, arrival location, or at any stop-over location is above 85 degrees, or under 45 degrees. Good thing you found out now and not when you showed up on departure date. if your Vet was near the departure airport and knows the pet is going to Hawaii, they should have told you about this. Many Vets still don't mention it but will do the Acclimation Certification when you come in for the final health certificate.

good luck.

Call Continental's pet desk. The acclimation certification may still be required if the temp is above or below the required levels at the airport. The certificate has less to do with the aircraft or flying, it is about the ground portion of the travel.

Continental may have a waiver if they have proper temp controls (minimual exposure to the outside) in place at the airports for ground transportation. But call and ask specifically so your not surprised. Their website still says it required.

I never saw it on the web site or when I called many times couple of months ago. Of course the vets here don't understand the course to follow because they haven't done it before. I was really glad to find out this infomation this am at the airport. I wouldn't have been prepared.

I only saw short nose breeds wouldn't be allowed. All airlines have temp controlled I would think in cargo - right? I always ignored the question because wouldn't think you can fly 30,000 feet with out temp control with an animal. I know he will be fine if others have done it.

Looks like I am going to have to fly him cargo after all. Didn't think they would be so strict but if you have to take out a sweatshirt for a carryon don't think I am going to get away with a pound or two over in the crate. In Hawaii on phone they said not so big deal but at Sea Tac big deal!!

They also told me at the counter which is differnt than online don't bother with the food they will not feed them. No big deal to my boy.He can make it with a little frozen water till we land. He is a camel.

OK again another question to locals. Heartworm meds? Really needed? Going to ask friends also - pretty much don't have them here in WA.

OHH my I will be glad when this part is over and have my knowledge under my belt after this one! Thanks for the patience and help all!
