OKay, yeah..... good thing to think about. How often do you guys get Tsunami Warnings? I haven't seen in the news Hawaii getting hit by a devastating Tsunami, but I would imagine you get warnings often.

check here: NOAA Pacific Tsunami Warning Center

we do NOT get WARNINGS often. we would more than likely get a tsunami WATCH message instead. there's a big difference. WARNING meaning it's happening or about to happen--imminent danger. WATCH meaning that there's possibility.

it has been down graded to an ADVISORY and beaches have been closed until tomorrow a.m. however, the lifegards and surfers in honoli'i, big island, did not get the memo. dangerous tidal/current and surges/changes are still possibilities even without the "big wave."

Remember, you can sign up for Hawaii County Civil Defense text msgs here: County of Hawaii Civil Defense Mobile Alerts

If you live here, this is a great service to have. Also gives you notice of major road closures.

Thankful nothing happened here, but thinking of those who are dealing with the realities elsewhere...

The height is underestimated, its the speed and force that the waves come in at. The max wave height estimated was 19feet and just look at the damage it did in Samoa.

Here is an interesting site on tsunamis.

Tsunamis and Earthquakes - USGS Western Coastal and Marine Geology

It's amazing how animals can detect tremors in the earth caused by the earthquake/tsunami and flee the oncoming wave(s).
