Default Does Hawaii still need certified teachers from the mainland?

I'm a certified K-6 teacher (unfortunately I do not have a special education endorsement) and I will have my master's in education in December. I am thinking of applying for a position in Hawaii (I was thinking of Hilo, if possible, but would take what I was offered), but I have heard conflicting reports. I've read/heard that the recession is affecting education jobs, but I've also heard that Hawaii has a shortage of certified teachers.

Would I have a good chance of finding employment there for the 2010-11 school year? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would apply at the charter schools if I was a teacher.

Hawaii only requires a Bachelors for teaching school. There have been mandatory furlough days to be intiated in a couple weeks which will decrease the public school year. In my opinion it is not a good sceneirio. The teacher's union and the state just, again, lowered the union teacher's salaries. I know many local teachers who are out of work and looking for a job. With your Masters you could accept a Bachleor position (along with the pay). Good-luck.
