Need opinions on Internet and Television Please
Moving to Maui, need to have internet and television set up. What are my options regarding internet service providers and whether or not to go with directtv or digital cable. I would prefer directtv but I do not know if my landlalord will allow us to set up a dish. Please share your experiences and likes/ dislikes. Thanks.

Aloha,
I can't tell you about Maui, we live on the Big Island. We have to have Dish Network and love it, few if any problems only weather sometimes (it has to be really bad).
You might want to check out Oceanic Time Warner for cable/internet/phone as they're running specials now for the two or three package deals.
Hope this helps from the "Sista" Island.

I'm on Oahu. I have Oceanic Time Warner for cable TV and internet. I don't have any complaints really. I'm not a big TV person. I do however need my internet connection. We've had good service from Oceanic.

If I had had ANY other option than Dish Network (no Comcast/cable to the house) I would have taken it. Dish Network's interface is incredibly confusing, and their customer service annoying.

Big Island - We have Dish for TV (and love it, had it on mainland since 2000) and have DSL thru Hawaiian Telecom which is surprisingly reliable.

On Molokai, we have DirecTV (transferred from our account on the mainland). No problems! If we can get it here, I'll bet you can get it on Maui. As far as internet goes, we have good Verizon reception at our house, so we have a "laptop connect card" type of connection. You'll certainly have more options on Maui, but Verizon works well here.
