Default Little furry animals that are legal in Hawaii?

I'm really sad that Ferrets aren't legal...what IS legal? Does anyone know if it is legal to have mongoose as pets?

Call animal quarantine, they will explain what is and isn't allowed. Mongoose is a common pet on parts of the Big Island. Kinda like pet squirrels or pet raccoons that just stop by and you befriend them. If you want to have a pet mongoose, just take a drive between Hilo and Waimea. Stop the car, leave some masallas on the seat, open the door, and you'll have a family chowing down in no time. Slam door and you have your pets. (keep the massallas coming or they may turn on you)

I don't think it is legal to have a mongoose, call the Humane Society.

Other furry friends you could have include cats, dogs, mice, rats, bunnies are okay I think, chinchillas. Just ask when you call about the mongoose, and they can tell you what other little rodent types are okay here.

Guinea pigs are allowed, pet rats & mice (eewe!), rabbits, cats, dogs, and chinchillas are all allowed. I'm not sure if hamsters are allowed or not, I haven't seen any but I haven't been looking, either. Turtles and Jackson chameleons are allowed although they aren't very furry.

Goats, horses, cows and sheep if you have enough room for them. Pet goats are fairly common around here and the occasional pet pig, too.

No squirrels, ferrets, chipmunks, mink, bengal house cats, or skunks.

Technically, you aren't supposed to make a pet of a mongoose and considering how ferocious those animals can be, I'd consider them a really scary pet. You aren't supposed to make pets of myna birds, either.

For furry beasts around our house, we have two border collies, one black and white cat (to match the dogs) and one white angora rabbit and one black angora rabbit. We are doing the "black and white" theme with the furry beasts. Occasionally the vacuum chokes on hairballs.
