We have been in our Pahoa home since June. No blue ones. Due to our bug spraying, not much makes it into the house. They die outside.

One of the things we have noticed over the years of visiting before we moved is that there are almost zero bugs in the Waikoloa area. Maybe too hot, too windy, too dry?

Thank you mdand3boys. I think I will be going to Waikoloa, if I come. I'm still trying to make plans. I guess I panicked, because of seeing the other thread on centipedes. I know my mother would not survive, and I definitely plan on bringing her. I think it would just traumatize me for life.

My wife actually got bitten in the bed while she was asleep by a centipede. It was very painful for her, and we were shocked that it was even there, since our bedroom is on the 2nd floor.

I've ran into centipedes 4 times so far in our new house, and killed them all, and I still can't get used to them. They are really really resilient, bug spray just irritates them - you have to stomp on them a few times for them to die. Best thing to do is to vacuum them up with a portable one, put the vacuum contents in a plastic bag and start smashing it

They usually appear before it rains - they're absolutely the worst critter out there, they look absolutely hideous!

I guess that's the price to pay for living here in Oahu :P
