Default vog on the big island?

My family and I are moving to the big island this summer and i have to say I'm a little concerned about the smoke from the volcano ( i heard its called vog). I am wondering if anyone knows if there any long term health problems because of the vog. Can someone please help me with this? thank you in advance

There are several threads here about vog, you could do a search and read lots. Also, just google "vog" hawaii and probably get lots of news articles too.

Vog is very unpredictable. Depends on a lot of things such as location, wind, direction of wind, volume of emmisions, and your personal reaction to it. Some people are extremely sensitive to it, some not at all, and many others have eye and nose irritations that are annoying but not really dangerous. Asthmatics or people w/ COPD should probably investigate well and have Plan B just in case.

Best wishes on your move.

This may help.

USGS

According to the USGS, the amount of VOG is down somewhat from previous years. It also depends upon where you live as the winds blow it around. Where we are - near Pahoa - it is non-existent.

You should be concerned, unfortunately. It's pretty bad on most parts of the island. See:
