Hi!
Just found this forum and being very interested in Elvis Presley and having done a lot of research about Elvis in the 1950's I'd like to know if there is anybody in here who saw Elvis in concert back in November 1957 at the Honolulu Stadium on the 10th and at Schofield Barracks on the 11th. Or maybe somebody whose parents saw Elvis back then as it is now nearing 50 years since the shows took place. I'd also be very interested in photographs from Elvis' visit to the Hawaiian Islands in November 1957, which was his first, but by far the last. I'm hoping to hear from some Hawaiian fans or just ordinary subscribers of this forum. Sincerely Brian removed bripet56@yahoo.dk Last edited by markablue; 07-22-2006 at 03:22 AM. |

Aloha!
I was only 10 when Elvis came to Honolulu, but I've heard alot about him. I belong to a Elvis Fan Club here in Hilo. Our club's name is Elvis Rock-A-Hula Baby Fan Club. We have been to Graceland twice. I will look around for any pictures of him in Hawaii. |

Aloha Brian:
I was lucky enough to go to the Elvis concert in 1957 at our old Honolulu Stadium. It was in pre-Statehood Hawaii, called the Territory of Hawaii. The stadium site at King & Isenberg streets is now a park, as it was torn down in the mid-70s when the Aloha Stadium in Halawa opened. The old termite palace had been around since 1926, and had seen a lot of things. For the Elvis show, they built a stage for him on a big tractor trailer flatbed. The stage was at the 50 yard line, near the running track around the field, facing the press box side of the football field, so the audience could only occupy the sideline bleachers on that side of the field. I don't remember anyone in the enzones bleachers, or on the other side of the field. I do remember a lot of teenage girls screaming. (His back was to the mountains, and he was facing in the direction of the ocean.) He did 2 shows, but I was in elementary school, so I could only go to the matinee in the afternoon. I couldn't go to the evening show. My strongest memory is when Elvis sat down on the edge of the stage, and the crowd hushed, as the he whispered a story, and the drama grew....he said something to the effect that, "This next song is a real sad love song that my dear mama used to sing to me....(long pause).....then the stage erupted with "You ain't nuthin' 'bout a Hound Dog, crying all the time...." That was the most amazingly dramatic and exciting moment in my life up to the point, as I was only 9 years old, but already a huge fan. (My father worked in radio in Hawaii.) Elvis visited us several more times during his life, and loved our music. Mahalo, Harry B. Harry B. Soria, Jr. Moderator cut: advertising Last edited by markablue; 03-11-2007 at 04:58 AM. |

Hi, this is my first visit to this site.
I was browsing, interested in finding out about Elvis' first visit to Hawaii, when I came upon this website. I wonder if there is anyone out there (besides myself) that was there when Elvis came to Hawaii in 1957, and have some photos of that concert. I think Elvis was only 19 years old at the time and I was 13 going on 14 and attended Kalakaua Intermediate School. I can recall that there were 3 of us girls who together got to the old stadium real early...we had enough time to chat with him before his show. There were hardly any people at the stadium yet, so, we were able to go on stage with him as he checked it out. I was so thrilled because he hugged me and someone took our picture. I wish I had that picture! If you or anyone you know went to that very first Elvis concert in Hawaii, I'd like to know. I really was a die-hard Elvis fan - even went to see him when he left on the Matsonia(?), caught a piece of his lei and other stuff that I wish I still had. Uncle Tom sure did a fantastic job of bringing a lot of 'stars' to Hawaii. I also attended almost all of the "Show of Stars" at the old Civic Auditorium. One of the popular local singers at that time had a crush on me...it was only puppy love (hush hush). |

I WAS THERE!!
Moderator cut: merged your thread into this one. I'm trying to find the photo someone took of me with Elvis hugging me on stage before his show started. I Am Trying To Find Out About A Story I Was Told When I Was Little About My Dad Who Was In The Army , Standing Guard Outside Where Elvis Was Preforming To Help Control The Crowds. He Says A Girl Stuck A Sharp Pencil In His Leg To Try To Get Through To Elvis. Wondering If Anyone Recalls If The Army Helped Control Crowds Or Anyone There Remember Sticking Pencil Into Some Poor Guys Leg. Ha.ha.
