This is the bloom of the ti plant - the one with the large leaves that are used in skirts. I never knew the plant bloomed - until one did, in my back yard!

Christmas eve on Kauai
Around 3 on Christmas eve we went down to Kalapaki Beach.
After a refreshing dip, we got our first glimpse of Santa arriving in Hawaii, after his grueling trek through Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and the mainland. He arrived in style with the help of some canoeing elves:
and had plenty of aloha spirit, and candy for the keiki:
It was clear that we were not the only ones in the holiday spirit:
