This doesn't explain the protestors and National Guard envoy protecting the ship when it sailed in December.
Any other insights?

Is this ferry in any way comparable to the ferry ride between Port Angeles and Victoria? That didn't make me sick.
Gosh, you would think the fuel would be their expense!
Hawaii is expensive in almost every way, but you can't grow a garden year round, get a tan year round or have an average 80 degree temperature too many places on the mainland.
You get what you pay for?

i believe it was the coast guard, no?
to reiterate: it's about the environment. the whales, invasive species, taking of resources, traffic, etc. etc.

superferry is one of the main reasons we've thought about spending winters in hawaii...now i'm not so sure, given all the problems with superferry.

i'm sure the scenery is beautiful. but, my friend's cousins just got back from a voyage and they all got sick. the sea was really rough. also, the superferry is going to start a second departure to/from maui shortly.

That be the 'Black Ball Line's M.V.Coho'. Nothing like the "superferry".
Coho makes regular runs. It is in that same tradition that Black Ball Transport and the vessel M.V.Coho takes pride in its record of reliable and prompt service. In the forty-seven years of service we have transported over 20 million passengers and 5 million vehicles without losing a sailing due to bad weather.
