You might want to narrow your search to a few properties, then ask people here what *they* think of the resorts. We see them all the time, know their locations, reputations, pluses/minuses.

Best of luck.

If you're not the kind of person whose experience is all about hotel amenities, then look for a condo rental. The Mahana in Kaanapali in Maui is awesome and there are plenty of good deals on vrbo.com. Just make sure you book through a private owner so you know exactly what room you're getting and what it looks like.

As far as a renting a car, I would highly recommend it. Look for a local rental service and you can find prices that are less than half of what the big names charge.

I would suggest the big island. There is not as much to do as there is on oahu but i am thinking for a honeymoon, this would be best. You will need a rental car no matter though, unless u want public transportation , which just leaves you on oahu. Look up Hilton Waikoloa, Waikoloa Marriot and Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, They are beautiful resorts. Marriot and Mauna Lani have their own beaches , Hilton doesn't but it is the largest resort there. I'm not sure what your range is but take a look.
The second suggestion is kauai, which is even slower than the Big island, but it is absolutely breathtaking. The beaches there run behind the hotels for miles and most of the time there is not much people there. I used to work at both the hilton and mauna lani and they really try to accomodate honeymooners. Hope this helps...

P,s Make Oahu ur last choice, lots of traffic and city life

man, i think that's the first and only time i might read the sentence "there isn't as much to do on the Big Island as on O'ahu" that blows my mind! maybe if you are only referring to city things or nightlife?

You want crowds? 150-200 people on a beach? Go to Oahu.

The place where you'll stay - where you don't need a car - where you can walk alot - are high-density. Think New York, don't need a car, city is very crowded. Parts of Oahu are like that.

You want space? 20-30 people on a beach? Go to Maui or Kaua'i or Big Island. Spend the $$ on a rental car. Enjoy the island. You can get good deals these days.
