what is a "taro" field? thanks!

Taro is a traditional Hawaiian food usually grown in flooded fields. It has broad flat leaves growing from a bulb. The bulb is pounded to a paste (poi) that looks like pudding, but has a taste like nothing else. The leaves are cooked as greens and to wrap meats for steaming.

I thought your question was in response to my photos posted at the top of this list, so I answered it there. Here is a copy:

Taro (Kalo) is and was a staple of the Hawaiian diet. It is the basis for poi. Here is a discussion from Wikipedia:
