I just compared Safeway's weekly ad to ours in Oregon and it is the exact same ad flyer except for a couple meats on the front page. Since this is where I normally shop, that is good news to me. Food is expensive in Oregon though, so it may not be the case for everywhere, but you can compare at Safeway.com.

okay, something was hokey with my browser and it was the same flyer because it was the same flyer (does that make sense?). I opened them up in different windows and the prices are different. It is a easy thing to do if you want to compare prices though. Just go to Safeway.com.

nope. emphatically disagree. costco is most times cheaper because it is a wholesale club and you have to buy in bulk.
foodland locations:
aina haina shopping center, ala moana center, beretania, dillingham plaza, ewa town center, hawai'i kai, kailua, kaneohe, liliha, market city, mililani, pearl city shopping center, waipio gentry.
these locations could possibly be considered "rural":
pupkea and wahiawa.

Though there are some in downtown, these town's aren't busy. They could easily be considered rural.
They are also all very different. Some are extremely tiny and some are standard(for Foodland).
On a side note, the stores I mentioned above are always cheaper. What may be $10 for you there is most like half that for me here. Same state, different island. Same chain, different prices.

a lot of times the same chains/same items/different locations/same island, have different prices. i.e. long's and walmart. that's for unadvertised sale items.
some other findings:
d'anjou pears: 1.39/lb foodland 1.99/lb safeway
okinawan sweet potatoes: 1.39/lb. foodland .99/lb safeway
bud light, bud, coors, coors light, miller light, mgd: 18.88/30 cans foodland 18.99 safeway
purchased a case of vienna sausage at sam's club for $6.88 was on sale at don quiote (spelling) for $5.88.

Maui and Oahu I know for sure. Don't care about the other places as I don't go there often.

This may be a really dumb question, but, is it easy to grow fruits and vegetables in Hawaii? I'm interested in going to college there (it's an AMAZING place) and I know the basics of gardening and whatnot, but I was just wondering if growing some of my own food would be possible in Hawaii.
Thanks in advance
