Default best location for younger people in Honolulu

Just wondering which neighborhoods of the city tend to draw the highest concentration of young adults and young professionals. I will be moving out there soon and I am finishing an apartment search now.

I just don't want to move into an area where I am surrounded by older retired folks or a majority of others who are out of my age range(I just turned 29). I am hoping to make some friends as I don't know a soul on the island.

Thanks so much for your input...

It depends on what your interests are. what kind of a lifestyle do you want? how much do you want to pay for rent. how close do you need to be to work, etc. there are many choices on where to live for a young person

Are you looking to meet young single people or young people with families?

If you are looking to meet young single people, I don't think where you live will matter in terms of getting to know people who live by you. I would recommend renting in town (Makiki, Manoa, Kapiolani areas). You will meet more young people in places to hang out (ie bars, clubs, coffeshops, get involved in sports, like paddling, surfing, join a softball team, etc).

If you are looking to meet young families, I think Mililani Mauka and Ewa Beach have alot of young families. Also Waikele and Kapolei areas.

Aloha GRap, some good advise but a lot depends on what you are looking for and cost. When are you going to be here. Glad to show you around and help you check things out, always looking for new friends. Mike. mpaahana@yahoo.com
