Yes and no.... Your experience with a HI state worker could be a typical experience in that setting. Don't let that experience ruin it for you. There are plenty of folks here that have shown me in my 23 years here, a Black man from Alabama more "Aloha" than anyone down south where I'm from. It doesn't matter if "others" have the Aloha spirit, only that YOU have the Aloha spirit... People will pick up on it from you and your interaction with them, thus you have just "spread the Aloha".

I always thought the locals were great!
I noticed that too when I first visited HNL.. the female clerks were always happy & smiling!
Well, go figure.. island life is GREAT!
I never had much trouble. well, islandgirl, talk pigeon to us! i miss talkin pigeon... it was a cool slang... you like go home, girl? me too, I no like the mainland much!
gosh, all the tradewinds, wonderful fruits and veggies....not much traffic compared to mainland... much safer roads.... the ability to go swimming EVERY DAY of your life! It rocks!
Wish someone would just transport me outta here.. the mainland sucks in many ways, imho....

Eh, you gotta move back too! Jus' do it! I cannot handle the food on da mainland anymo'a. It's okay, but not da bes'. Please. These places that profess to be local kine grinds. Yeah right. Dey don't know. I'm not the bes' cook (but not da worse) and I'd rather eat McDonald's den what these people make. Are you kidding me? I won't even go into detail, but you know what I mean. Please. No guhd!

I will be home in about 5.5 more weeks! I cannot wait!

P.S. I do have to say that Poke Express in Las Vegas, NV is da bes! Anyone visiting Las Vegas gotta go! Local family in Vegas and serving FRESH poke. I MEAN FRESH! Can I say the name here? HO BRAH BROK' DA MOUT'!
