Default Best walking beaches on Maui and...

the Big Island? I know that the BI is mostly lava.....but are there any great hiking/walking areas along the coast/beaches? I will be spending a good amount of time here (3 weeks) and would love the input (sorry -- I will be in the Kona area)!

I will also be spending time in Maui (8 days) on the western side of the island (Kihiu??)...any suggestions???

THANK YOU!!!

Default Maui...

If you are staying in Kihei (which is the south side), my favorite place to walk is the Wailea Beach Path. You can park at the Mokapu/Ulua Beach lot on Wailea Alunui road and it runs from the Renaissance all the way to the Kea Lani. It is about 3 miles round trip and is ocean front the whole way. It winds in front of all the major Wailea Resorts including the Marriott, Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons. And if you want to stop at any of the resort along the way for a drink, they all have bars and restaurants!

Sugar Beach runs all the way from North Kihei to Maalaea, quite a long walk to the end and back, bring water. But that Wailea beach walk, walk a little, sneak into a hotel pool, a cold one at one of the bars, think tomorrows agenda has just been set! Swim to the underwater bar at the Hyatt, just hope that the person sitting next to you hasn't been there too long, if you know what I mean.

Aloha,
Thomas Praetzel

Thumbs up Sugar Beach

Sugar Beach has always been my favorite. 3 miles of solid beach from Maalaea Bay rentals, all the way to Suda's breakwater. I do that walk usually 5 to 7 times during a 10 or so day trip and cool off in the ocean periodically. Yes though, do bring fresh water with you as the sun is very intense.
