Ok. I really really really need help. I'm glad I've come across this thread. I'm a college kid whose medical/health insurance has run out. I have bad sinus/allergy problems, and now, my upper spinal region is hurting as if I was bruised. Could somebody please tell me about any FREE medical insurance that I can get?
If you are in college your school should have a student health center that can help you for low cost. And most colleges require you to carry insurance these days. Are you sure they didn't enroll you into their plan without your knowledge? If not, call and ask the health center about insurance options. They will even take it out of your bill every semester so you can use student loans to pay it.
Go to the student clinic and get checked out BEFORE you go home. There are no low-cost options available for anyone, only charity care IF you qualify. Your parents probably won't qualify if you're in college.
I don't understand how your insurance "ran out" if you are still in college. If you are under 26, you can be on your parents' policy. If they don't carry insurance, a policy in your name is most likely cheaper, and with better coverage than what the college offers. We did a comparison while deciding whether or not to keep our kids on our plan. The college coverage was very basic, and not worth the premiums.
OP, you have gotten some great advice here. Listen to it, and follow through with it. It has also been proven that people who have a pessimistic outlook tend to get sick more. Try looking at the bright side, and don't even imagine you will end up in a hospital. My goodness, that is ages from now, and you or anyone else, for that matter, don't know what is going to happen tomorrow, much less months from now. Get the medical attention now, follow through, and be happy.
Thanks y'all. I'm 19 and my Medicaid and AllKids ran out when I turned 19. I have the school insurance since enrollment, but I can only use it at the school.

That 26 is in the new healthcare bill which doesn't fully come into effect until 2014 unless his parents insurance adopted the manadtes last cotober to be grandfathered. Most didn't.

Mine has a 20 Dollar Copay for Doctor visits. My College has a health care center, though, where I can go to ( Dermatologist, men's clinic, HIV tests, Xrays etc). Otherwise, it would pay 80%. The limit is 100k, I think. It's 1000 a year. Private would be almost 200 a month.
