We have 2 young children and my husband is ill and not able to work. We do not qualify for medicaid. So right now we pay over 1000.00 a month for not so great coverage.

Those who also buy their own. How much do you pay? Which company? How is choice of doctors? Coverage? Are you happy with your plan?

Any info really would help.

Thank you

Not sure if this will help you. My bf got an individual plan using ehealthinsurance.com. The plan is through BCBS and costs him about $150/month with a $3500 deductible. Covers nothing before you meet the deductible, but everything after you meet it. He is in great health. I think a family plan where one of the adults has health issues would be a lot more money.

Look into your state's CHIP prpogram - children's health insurance program. You can get them covered fairly cheaply. Then take them off the family plan.
