Reading a bit at a time is very good advice, IMO. Every time I try to learn too much at a single sitting I can end up confusing myself. Go slow, read a little at a time, and eventually you'll digest it all.

You know what they say... "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!"

How does today's (ridiculous) decision affect Medicare recipients...or even people who retire prior to age 65? It seems to me that the only option I will have if I want to retire before age 65 would be to move to a country like Ecuador where health care is very inexpensive.

From what I hear Medicare doesn't really cover many expenses, and you are also forced to purchase a supplemental insurance to cover the other 20%.

Now I imagine supplemental insurance is quite costly. So on top of Medicare $99 + supplemental insurance, you would be looking at around $300 a month.

Thanks for everyone's input. And then again, will there be Medicare in 10 years; Social Security. It's all so scary. I wish I had saved like mad many, many years ago. But I remember when the 401k's first came out I was so leery and ill-informed. And the divorce left me with the absence of saving. What a world. . .
If you don't have a employer drug coverage don't forget part D which varies i cost.If you don't have coverage then try to sign up later its a 10% penalty per year without. My drug coverage is thru employer suppent so i do not know cost average for part D;sorry

It will make your health insurance much easier to get - no preexisting conditions after 2014 - and more affordable - contrary to all the hyperbole floating around. If you are in your 50s and have a heart condition or a history of cancer or even high blood pressure or a precancerous screening that turned out negative, good luck trying to get health insurance now. No longer the case after 2014.

That's a big win for those who want to retire early.

This is the land of the free. Free to not have medical coverage. Free to go bankrupt because of medical expenses. Free to be old and improverished. Rah rah.
Countries in Europe have much higher tax rates then we have here. I suggest you read and learn before you grant us your views.
