I want to point out a new aspect of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), that is not so known--Insurance Co-ops. I believe this kind of options can be very helpful in providing insurance in many situations where standard corporate policies would not work, as in Rural America; places where these fat cats of corporate insurance see just sparse pickings that is not worth the effort.

I also like the idea that it gets some insurance back to the hands of the people and may in the future be a very effective way of taking away monies and influence from the insurance industry. I do support the ACA and I think it is a start to a better direction but I much more supported the idea of a single pay healthcare system and doing away with corporate insurance control. Perhaps Co-ops if they take hold will challenge the insurance hogs of healthcare.

Unfortunately, the remaining funds (~$2.3b) in the CO-OP program were rescinded to pay for part of the 1 year SGR fix. While obligated funds will be unaffected, we won't see any new CO-OPs supported by this program.

Also one has to remmebr that most large compnaies are self insured and make no profit. But even they have to have castrophy vocerage after a certain amount of claims bought rhu the priavte insurance compnaies. Even then Co-op can actaully ahve larger cost dependig on the sizr e of the pools and most foten hire insurance companies to manage the claims because they can do it cheap that one insured group doig their own.My company is self insured with insurance to cover if claims over the and the compnay contribtuion amount and is manged by Blue Cross;Blue shield as a example.Cliamns basically contol cost and are determine by years prior claims amount plus the fee for managig is based o claims anount.
