Outpatient surgery at hospital. I was in and out in under 3 hours. No big deal. You need mild anesthesia - you're not totally out, just enough to minimize the experience. First eye went swimmingly. Second eye, I thought I won't bother with twilight anesthesia b/c the first surgery was no biggee and the anesthetic really slowed me down for the rest of the day.
Big mistake. No pain, but the eye is open into very bright light for about 20 minutes and the whirring of the machine removing cataract very unsettling. Awful experience when you're fully conscious. Absolutely take the twilight anesthesia. I know you didn't ask, but thought I'd mention it.
