Hi all,

I was unemployed this year while attending school full-time. I live in FL, so no Medicaid expansion or subsidy help. Obamacare offered me plans at $300 a month, which I couldn't afford, so I went without. Now I'm hired, starting a job in mid-December, and will make maybe $2500-3000. Am I going to have to pay the penalty, and how much will it be?

You may qualify for an exemption. Read this:

Hardship waiver comes to mind - especially if you live a state which didn't expand Medicaid.

If you don't qualify for a waiver, fine for no coverage this year in your case is probably $95. Read this:

"You were determined ineligible for Medicaid because your state didn’t expand eligibility for Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act"

Yup, that's the ticket. On the hardship form, it says to attach a copy of my Medicaid refusal. Uh, they just told me over the phone I'm screwed. I don't have a form. God I hate red tape!

I'm not gonna worry about it because it looks like I don't even have to file taxes this year because I'm making less than $10,000. Awesome. Thanks for the links.

You will a fall in the thing that Obama himself pointed out in not wanting mandate and fines in his debate with Hillary for nomination. That is its impossible to enforce on all. The IRS will be busy providing the information on citizenship they just completed for last years buyers. 360k got letter their proof was good enough. What are they going to do jail you; of course not. Because supreme court ruled long ago you can't jail people for laws with fine only punishment. Enjoy college while you can.
