How does an individual person qualify for a group plan?

My mom didn't say if she got a letter, so maybe I can ask to see if thats a thing with her insurance - as in if she supposed to get a letter officially saying I am off her insurance, or how long I will be covered until, something like that.

I took it as meaning being with your family aka parents would probably be group plan VS the day that I come off and I would have an individual plan (since Im not married, have children, etc so it just me). Thats how it MIGHT be less however less that may be.

Taking COBRA on their parent's plan, getting a plan at your own place of employment...

OP, if you can't get a plan through your work, go to an independent insurance broker and chat with that person. Before all this crapo started, I was able to get insurance for $80/month just for myself. I'm a non-smoker, not obese, no pre-existing conditions. It's probably much higher than that now, but that independent guy could look at many programs and find something that worked with my budget.

We have an Only. This was 10 years ago. YMMV .
I was surprised to discover that in total, we and the Only could have had cheaper HI had he purchased himself and we dropped to couple coverage rather than being on the family coverage.

$80 premium for a single person in their 20s....haven't seen that price since about 2004.

Yeah, it's probably closer to $180 or something these days, but that beats the $950/mo my diabetic neighbor is being charged, which he can't afford.

Being diabetic doesn't raise the premium now. Everyone his age in your area is being charged $950, even the healthy ones. Smoking is the only thing that ups the premium.
