Wow after googling these same terms for a few weeks I got a hit. It appears it just came up.

Federal Rule/Laws state that QMB participants are not to be billed for their part b deductible or co-insurance by providers. QMB already covers the part b premium. This is from the Govt' Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

Just for the record- There is no Federal protection regarding your estate with the QMB program so they can take it via the Medicaid Estate Recovery Act unless your State follows other rules/laws.

Now I am wondering if they decided to cover the people in QI medicare savings program, just as if they cover the people in QMB, why have three programs?

Although QI program has limited spots. In California, it probably means they fill up quickly.

This is wonderful news as I plan when to take SS.

Hoping to work as long as possible, well into age 75.

Able to keep employers health plan and benefits (accident, life, dismemberment, dental)

Quit when I am physically unable to work and my husband is dead.

Then I'd still qualify for QI, not worrying so much about medical bills depleting the estate

Our son is battling schizophrenia so wanted to have the ability to create a special needs trust if necessary, with the ability to provide him with what he needs when he needs it.

But hopefully he will pull out of it. Keeping stress away is the key

This is what Denti-Cal covers. It was re-instated a few years ago.
It is far better than nothing.
I guess alot of people died when there was no coverage at all.
Many died. They felt the missing teeth which resulted prevented obtaining employment

I believe States differ
No, not in California. Dual eligibles are covered by medicare and medi-cal. You are not required to pay for part B, the state will pick that up. It seems like each county has their own way of dealing with dual eligibles, in Sacramento County dual eligibles are the only medi-cal recipients not required to enroll in managed care which can be an advantage in finding specialists or surgeons. In order for a dual eligible to receive medi-cal their assets are counted, unlike ordinary medi-cal since the ACA which was solely based solely on MAGI and not assets.

The SLMB & QI program is what we'd qualify for, if any
California is “welfare happy”. What would be a SLMB or QI-1 in most states is a MEDI-CAL SHARE OF COST in Calif. This gives the beneficiary the ability to limit their OOP medical costs with their share of cost amount each month.
