My adult daughter with autism and intellectual disability is coming eligible for Medicare on March 1. She was on SSI when my husband suddenly died almost 2 years ago. When she was transitioned to SSDI, she retained her Medicaid and now she will be "dual eligible" (she will remain eligible for Medicaid, which will cover her needs that would not be covered by Medicare).
As part of this, I need to choose a Part D plan. She needs to have traditional Part A and B, but when I check the Part D plans for my state, the best plans don't accept LIS beneficiaries like my daughter. I don't know what to choose or what to look for, except for formularies that include her meds (all of them do). Does it even matter what I choose? We live in Maryland, so deductibles and copays will be paid for by Medicaid.
Does anyone from Maryland have any recommendations for a Part D plan? Does anyone with a Part D plan have any cautions about how to avoid complicated requirements to get the meds my daughter needs?
I have spent hours on this, and I have called Medicare and Medicaid. But the details of responses differ and, you know, "details" and "devil."
