So far I've had my mattress for a year and still feels like the first night every night I sleep on it. I used to have such trouble falling asleep on a regular mattress, then a waterbed, then the other type of water bed, where it doesn't feel like a tidal wave , then the sleep number bed, and now the memory foam.
I'm sure the memory foam mattress on top of the soft side water bed would work great.
Also, since the memory foam mattresses are reasonably priced, once it loses it's ability to bounce back after the 5 year warranty, I'll just buy a new one. It's a fraction of the price of the sleep number bed.

Thats what I was thinking, the sleep number bed seems so good but they are so expensive.
I have a soft side waterbed and it will only cost me 250 to replace the bladder part, it has the baffles inside so there are no tidal waves, then I could put one of those overlays of the memory foam on it. I think for now thats what I will do. I don't have the money to spend on a sleep number bed, I would have to finance it and I would be seriously upset if it started loosing air about the time it was paid off.
My soft side waterbed bladder lasted 5 years with NO problem. Then one morning I found there was a leak and no matter what I did I wasn't able to find where it was leaking from, I even blew it up with air and leaned on it to see if I could hear the hissing, no luck.

One reason those air mattress beds cost a lot is to pay for the marketing. All those TV, magazine and junk mail coupons cost a lot, plus the commissions to sales people.
An alternative to the memory foam mattresses that are made from synthetic plastic foam, are latex mattresses. Latex is a natural material, available in various firmness factors. Look it up on google, several companies listed, or they are available from a small number of stores in major metro areas.

I was at Costco today and was looking at their memory foam toppers for a bed you already have...I was shocked that just the topper was about 200 bucks for my King size bed. It was 3 inches thick if memory serves.

We had a memory foam bed for several years. At first we really loved it! But as time wore on we found we were sleeping in holes. We literally had to pick ourselves up out of our hole to roll over. Because hubby weighs about twice as much as me his hole was deeper than mine, which caused the sheets to tighten and slope me into his hole! Yikes! *LOL* (sounds kinda wierd, huh?) I could not stand his weight on me while trying to sleep, would put serious kinks in my back. I spent the night trying to hang onto the edge of the bed so I wouldn't roll under him. The bed caused a horrid burning pain in my shoulders and hips (side sleeper) also.

Well I used to sleep on a normal mattress...and I always flipped my mattress from top to bottom and reverse the side so it would wear normally.
I ordered a memory foam bed tonight, free delivery, the King size of a Tempurpedic was about 2200 bucks, mattress and box spring.
I have a bed frame that has a foot board and head board but the soft side water bed that I have was actually resting on a normal waterbed foundation hidden under the normal looking bed. I am looking forward to having a NORMAL bed so I can store things underneath it.
There are alot of other types of memory foam beds but Tempurpedic is the one who was first to come out with this technology for the public AND initially did it only for medical use. I had always heard they were SO expensive but if you take a look at the prices, there is not that big of different, of course depending on what thickness you choose. Of course if you have someone in your life that is a large person you might have to buy the thicker version.
When I was at my Moms a couple years back, I laid down on her Tempurpedic and fell right off to sleep, I didn't move at all. She is a larger woman then I and has had her bed for several years now and not had a problem.
I can't tell you how I look forward to having a nice nights sleep, its been SO long. I am now sleeping on a twin bed in the guest room which is hard as a rock. Even the cats have left me the bed is so uncomfortable.

Yea, no kidding.
While my daughter was gone to visit family, I slept in her twin bed but its a nice soft comfy mattress...at times I had three of them in that little bed with me.
The guest bed is awful...AND I am lonely for my fur babies.

my bed was too hard and causing discomfort on my shoulders and hips. on the tips of friends, bought a fiberbed (not featherbed with feather sticks) and i just love it. you can put them on the hardest of mattresses. i wanted even softer so bought a second one. now i have the two on the bed and i sleep just fine and it didnt cost me much at all.

I'm so bummed about what I'm hearing about a sleep number bed, I sooo wanted to get one of those. So nobody has mentioned what the warranty is when you buy one? I've slept on them before and just loved them. My in-laws have one and seem to just love it, but they haven't hit that five year mark. Darnit!
