I've been doing this since the wkend to help calm me. I get very high pulse/anxious, before & during my workouts, & this helps. But I want to try natural like Valerian, etc. but too many unknowns. I like Ativan only because, it is least harsh benzo on liver (& I still like a wine or beer daily too.) Any advice? Thanks.

Panic attacks maybe? I get them and much as an Ativan would be great benzos are far to addictive. It might be a good idea to see a doctor.

Update: Saw psychiatrist & he gave both Klonopin & Ativan. I don't like liver damage possibly from long acting Klonopin, thus will stay w/ Ativan as needed. But anyone have feedback on this?

My doc is kinds funny & nuts, & I told him I drink a red wine or 2/day but -- no more -- as I don't want high BP but he said it is ok to have a drink or 2 WITH the benzo to relax even more & tonic the wine w/ the meds. But he said too, do this w/in reason. So I'll limp along til I feel better than reduce meds asap. Thanks.

Hehe, I go to meet w/ him for 1st time yest & he claims it is GAD that I got. So this is treating the anxiety & maybe this will help. Will address the depression/OCD traits in subsequent visits w/ SSRI (tho I fear them due to carotid artery thickening studies from their use ), if needed.

He's open to a cocktail regimen type "put-together-regimen" mish-mash, that at my age, 51, is tailored to not trying to teach old dog new tricks but rather let me be the way I am/was -- yet try to calm me w/ this & psychotherapy/CBT, etc.

Its a long rd but hope I make it.

My brother has the same problem and struggles a lot. I think now he is just on Xanax. He takes between 1 to 4 1mg pills a day. He drinks too, I have no idea how he has not killed himself yet.

I know the deal. I hate meds (like booze ) but know u cant go w/ this way longterm. Wine chills me & thus alleviates anxiety but not able to use this in daytime. lol

You do know Ativan is highly addictive? It doesn't say so in the product literature (bad business) but I was addicted to it many years ago. I was just taking 1 mg/day, then tried to stop, nearly lost my mind! I had to taper off, half a pill every day, then every other day, etc. I swore I would never go on such drugsd again!

Ive cut back without tapering,it depends on person and usage. Ativan is a very helpful drug for some. 1 mg is really nothing as long as it stays that way and you dont take more, some peeps take like 3-4 a day and even stronger mgs....so,1 mg as needed,if it helps,no probs,as long as you dont keep upping it.

Ok, people vary, some have higher tolerances, etc. But I took just 1 mg/day, never varied or upped the dose. Then, I ran out, thought I'd just go without, and wound up in the ER for a carry-over RX until I could see my doc again. They all said Ativan is Ok, not adictive, but I used the RX they gave me to taper off. It took about 2 months to get off it, 2 months from #ell.
