Chronic Back Pain: Help, Advice, Treatment Options?
It really starts hurting when I jump or run. Do you think a massage will help?

Try an appointment with your healthcare provider ASAP.

Dito what mm_mary73 says. Also, while a massage may help it may temporarily mask the symptoms.
Have you had back problems in the past? Is it possible you may have re-injured yourself? What level of physical shape are you in?

getting rid of back pain
I was building a retaining wall last summer and all of a sudden my back starting hurting while digging. This was bothering me a lot. I was limping around in pain trying to figure out what had happened and realized, because of the positioning of the trench, my right foot had been doing all of the pushing on the shovel.
So I went back to the trench and used my left foot for the pushing for awhile.
Right away the pain went away and didn't bother me any more after that. You might look to see if there has been anything you've been doing that would unbalance your back from one side to the other, then do the opposite to get it back in balance again. Astanga yoga sun salutations are also good for balancing the body and the back.

Massage will definitely help, but it's always good to see a healthcare provider to rule out anything serious
In body/mind studies, the lower back represents support. Do you feel unsupported? Or, do you have any worries about money? Just some food for thought...comes from the teachings of Louise Hay in her book, "Heal Your Body."
Hope you feel better soon!

I have found Yoga to do WONDERS. Traditional healthcare solutions tend to either cover back pain w/pain meds, ignore it, or try something invasive...I had no luck w/that angle b/c I wouldn't take pain meds and certainly wouldn't do anything invasive before trying all other options.
Yoga started working within a month and the only time I have back problems now is when I stop the yoga.

Chiropractics
In my family growing up, we didn't do chiropractors if you know what I mean.
That was considered kinda like "quackery" for the most part, but as an adult, I had serious, chronic neck/back issues (which the traditional medical route was unable to address) but chiropractic surprisingly helps me tremendously!
(I do think it is important to select a very competent chiropractor though.

Went through lower back pain when I was younger. Idiot doctors said it was an infection because I had something-or-other in my urine. Gave me stronger and stronger antibiotics that did nothing.
Went to a urologist and he told me all men have "infection" in their urine; it's normal.
What I had was cramping muscles because I let my stomach muscles get too "lazy" which caused the muscles in my lower back to tighten. He gave me a series of exercises designed to stretch my lower back muscles and the pain went away.

I have three crushed verte brae in my upper back and an old disc bulge in my lower back...
When I discovered how wonderful Bextra was, I almost broke down in tears, thinking of the many years of pain I had endured...
Then they took it off the market...
