I am a nanny for a one year old who likes to be held a lot. And, I like to hold him . It's partly my job as I have to carry him up the stairs and what not. He weighs 22 pounds.

In the last few days I've noticed my back tingling. It doesn't hurt (maybe a little but not real noticeable). I'm sure this is from holding him, or maybe I moved the wrong way and damaged something, but I'm not sure what to do to not make it worse since I can't just...not pick him up.

Are there any stretches I can do that will make this better? Should a weekend of not holding him help at all?

I would go to the doctor if it continues. I have a nerve condition in my legs which is treated different then a muscle condition. Though this may be just from your work it could be something different so I think it is better safe to get checked. In the mean time warm baths some feel epsom salt helps, heating pad,the right amount of activity where it does not aggrevate but does not get too stiff. I still think going to the doctor is best

Yeah I know, going to the doctor is always best...I just don't have benefits so my individual insurance is pretty much for emergencies only unless I want to pay an arm or a leg. So, I'd rather see what I can do beforehand. Thanks!

If the tingling and any numbness travels down your left leg, you may have hurt your sciatica. Google that and there is lots of online info about treatment for that. I have sciatica issues and carrying things over 20 pounds definitely aggravates it. Not being able to feel my left foot is my first symptom of more major pain on the way. Good luck. Having no insurance is a drag!

I don't have anything in my left leg, but have felt slight cramping in my right leg. I read something online and did a little self test for sciatica, but I'm not sure if that's it. I do have insurance, it's just the lowest cost plan I could get and I only have 2 doctor appointments at a co-pay before my deductible kicks in (I've already used one). So yeah, it's a drag! Hopefully resting this weekend will help.
